New Vessel From David

This is a new piece that David recently sold at the AAW Auction held during their 2011 Symposium in June. The vessel is composed of Maple and Poplar, with layers of cobalt blue Japan paint, silver leaf, chemical patina, mica powders, and lacquer, rubbed to satin sheen.

This and many of David’s other pieces can always be found in the Portfolio Section of the website.

Two New Turned Vessels

David recently completed two turned vessels which he submitted to the Hawaii’s Woodshow 2011 sponsored by the Hawai’i Forest Industry Association. The show was on display at the Academy Art Center in Honolulu in April. David designed the two vessels to resonate with the natural woods of Hawaii. Descriptions here…

David’s new piece titled Alchemist’s Vessel, made from Spalted Maple Burl, Silver and 22 Karat Gold Leaf, and Walrus Tusk Ivory was selected as the 2009 Best Turned Piece at the Artistry in Wood show sponsored by the Sonoma County Woodworker’s Association. You can see more photos of the piece here in the portfolio section. It is also on display at the Sonoma County Museum through September 20.


Two Of David’s Pieces On Display

David will have two pieces in the Fine Art in Wood and Furniture exhibit at The Gallery at 48 Natoma in Folsom, Californina from July 24 to Septebmer 10. All exhibits are free and open to the public. The pieces from David are a sculpture that is a curved, tapered hexagonal hollow form that has been veneered with quilted afzelia wood from Laos. The second piece is a Contemporary Walnut Bench with Copper Bases. Please download this postcard for details.

He had the opportunity to teach folks at the Donkey Mill Art Center in Kona on the Big Island, at Alan Wilkinson’s shop on Oahu, and at the Hui No`eau Visual Arts Center on Maui. This was a wonderful opportunity for David to share information with fellow woodworkers and artists and a chance to spend some time visiting the Hawaiian Islands. Delta had a pretty impressive bunch of guys appearing at their booth at AWFS in Las Vegas this past July. In addition to meeting fellow woodworkers from across the United States at this mega woodworking event, David got the opportunity to meet Norm Abram and to see once again his colleague Scott Phillips. Delta had invited David, Norm, Scott and Steve this year to represent Delta for them at AWFS.

Coloring Wood

Wood does not have one solid, uniform color to it. It is a composition of a range of colors. For example, maple ranges from a white tone to a grayish yellow tone, while cherry is a blend of brown and reddish tones. Appearance At IWF In Atlanta

David will be appearing in the Mini Max USA booth at the International Woodworking Machinery & Furniture Supply Fair (IWF) at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia on August 26th thru 29th. He will be demonstrating resawing on the Mini Max bandsaw as well bentwood lamination techniques. He will have a few examples of his work there, including a finished piece of furniture from his television show Woodworks.
