The rim at the top is segmented snakewood and ebony. The base is turned out of poplar and joined to the buckeye burl with mortise and tenon joint (box joint). The poplar has been gilded with silver leaf and treated with chemicals to create a patina. The patina is sealed with 20 coats of lacquer, hand rubbed.
