Hawaii Teaching Photo Gallery Posted Posted on November 11, 2007 David taught three classes on Gilding & Chemical Patination in Hawaii this September. He had the opportunity to teach folks at the Donkey Mill Art Center in Kona on the Big Island, at Alan Wilkinson’s shop on Oahu, and at the Hui No`eau Visual Arts Center on Maui. This was a wonderful opportunity for David to share information with fellow woodworkers and artists and a chance to spend some time visiting the Hawaiian Islands. To eliminate any confusion, I'd like to take a moment to make sure everybody knows what I know. I have completed 91 total Woodworks shows for DIY. Currently there are 13 new episodes showing, the 600 series and it's my understanding the last set of 13 shows I have completed, the 700 series, will begin airing in January 2005. DIY has not indicated to me in any way the show is being canceled. They simply have not, as of yet, approached me about taping any more episodes of Woodworks. I really appreciate the support I have been receiving and would encourage those so motivated to share your support for the show directly to DIY. You may email them at comments@diynet.com.

Coloring Wood Posted on September 7, 2004 Wood does not have one solid, uniform color to it. It is a composition of a range of colors. For example, maple ranges from a white tone to a grayish yellow tone, while cherry is a blend of brown and reddish tones. Bearing this point in mind when I color wood, I strive to maintain the clarity of all the little fine grains in the wood. I accomplish this by mostly using dyes as opposed to stains... Two New Seasons Posted on September 6, 2004 We're delighted to announce DIY will begin an expanded schedule of Woodworks shows in October, including the airing of 26 new episodes, bringing the total episode count to 91. It looks like the first episode from season six will air on October 2, then the second episode on October 7 and then weekly after that with repeats on the weekends. He will have a few examples of his work there, including a finished piece of furniture from his television show Woodworks. Acids react with the metal, creating a variety of colors and patterns, depending upon the chemicals used and how they are introduced to the metal.
